After searching in many books, in various languages and fields, especially the Arabic ones, or anything that was translated from other languages into Arabic, … I ended up with the following conclusions:
- Creating a “time sciences list” with dozens of sciences that tackle time in direct way, like: “time and astrology”, “history of time”, “philosophy of time”, “chronobiology”, “horology” etc.
- Hundreds of sciences, in which time plays an important role, which can be included under time sciences, considering its presence in some of them like: astrology and “relativistic physics” …
- There is almost no science without time, in a way or another, like: history, grammar, science of medicine, futurology and management …
However, I did not find in any classification, the sources that I checked, or the encyclopedias a science known as “Az-Zamen (time science)” or “Al-Waqt (time science)”, or even “Az-Zamen wu Al-Waqt (time science)”, which is the science that I will explain in the following paragraphs.
But, before that, why “time science”?
In the academic heritage written in Arabic or the related sources, established upon the fundamental sources: Qur’an, Sunnah, poems, language and science … which were written under “the monotheistic universal vision”, we notice the following:
- Az-Zamen (time), which often pertains to theory: definition of time, relative time …
- Al-Waqt (time): which pertains to practice: prayer time, blessed times …
- Al-Zaman (time): when the context of time is related to space/ …, or “transhumanism”, for instance, it is related to the arrival of the day of judgment; i.e. “signs of the end of time”.
We declare our inability to translate this meaning into other languages, including titles, which you will find in invitations and in budges and we will need your help to sort this.
It is sufficient to refer to Alija Izetbegovic in his saying “Qur’an is the book of life” and to Muhammad Iqbal when he said “the Qur’an puts higher emphasis on action than thought”, which explains the absence of “Al-Zamen (time)” in the Holy Qur’an and the presence of “Al-Waqt (time)” in all morphological forms: “the day of the time appointed”, “specific time”, “when Messengers are gathered to their time appointed” etc. (look – the table of time in the Holy Qur’an, under definition of time in the Holy Qur’an).
